National Defense Medical Center Tri-Service General Hospital Implements Trinity ETL and Trinity Metaman as a Foundation for Advancing Big Data Analytics and AI Applications

Tri-Service General Hospital (TSGH), under the National Defense Medical Center, is Taiwan’s only military-affiliated medical center of its kind. In addition to providing comprehensive healthcare services to military personnel and their families, TSGH also serves the general public across the nation. With four branch hospitals, three main campuses, and multiple outpatient centers distributed across various counties, TSGH is a key pillar in Taiwan’s healthcare system. Notably, the hospital has established an Artificial Intelligence and IoT Development Center and pioneered the country’s first 5G smart healthcare testbed. Its initiatives include AI-powered wound diagnosis, real-time surgical consultations and training, and remote rehabilitation guidance.

In support of its digital transformation and smart healthcare ambitions, TSGH implemented Trinity Professional and the Trinity Metaman metadata management module to enhance its internal data integration and streamline operational workflows.

Taiwan’s healthcare sector has increasingly embraced smart healthcare in recent years, but data integration remains a major challenge. TSGH’s Chief Information Officer has previously noted that “workflow complexity, data privacy, and regulatory compliance” are the top three pain points in digital transformation for hospitals. Due to the sensitivity of patient records, TSGH’s IT infrastructure has adopted a private cloud model to ensure data privacy.

By introducing Trinity Professional, TSGH was able to orchestrate complex ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes—such as data aggregation, splitting, and merging—within existing systems. The solution’s support for bulk data loading into databases enabled high-speed, high-volume batch data ingestion, improving the hospital’s ability to manage ever-growing datasets.

TSGH also leveraged the Trinity Metaman module to establish a robust metadata management framework. Trinity Metaman automatically maps relationships between metadata, providing IT personnel with intuitive interfaces to query and retrieve complete data definitions. Coupled with Trinity’s enterprise data quality management platform, the system ensures standardized data definitions, allowing internal teams to align development practices with institutional data governance rules. This disciplined approach helps identify anomalies, manage risks proactively, and ensure consistency across historical and current datasets.

Mr. Huai-Zhen Luo, Associate Sales Director responsible for the implementation, remarked: “TSGH holds itself to the highest standards when it comes to data usage. The contextual linking capabilities of Trinity Metaman significantly enhanced development accuracy and business delivery. In the event of an issue, teams can quickly trace root causes and resolve them, enabling the hospital to produce high-quality outcomes.”

Overall, TSGH expressed a high level of satisfaction with the Trinity solution. The implementation has laid a solid foundation for long-term ETL operations and scalable development, unifying historical data across all branches into a centralized platform. This sets the stage for more impactful big data analytics and AI applications in the future.
